Keys to Succeeding with Sonography and Ultrasound Tech Scholarship Applications
Finding great scholarships is just the first step. You still have to win them, and doing that will require submitting the best application you possibly can.
Each scholarship has its own purposes and goals, but there several strategies you can employ to maximize your chances of winning (including the five below) that apply to all scholarship contests.
Key #1: Select a School Accredited by CAAHEP
Most sonography and ultrasound tech scholarships require applicants to enroll or be enrolled in a program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs(CAAHEP). Most employers also require this accreditation, and it’s essential for licensure, certification, and transferability as well.
Key #2: Apply Each Year of Enrollment
Some scholarships are designed for incoming students, but many prioritize students in their sophomore, junior, or senior year of studies. And many scholarships are renewable, so you can win them more than once.
The point is that it pays to search out and apply to scholarships throughout the course of your studies.
Key #3: Join Professional Organizationss
Professional associations such as the ASRT and the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (SDSM) provide scholarships that are available exclusively to members. So, consider joining up.
And once you join, actively participate in these groups. Doing so offers valuable networking opportunities and can improve your chances of winning a scholarship.
Key #4: Pay Careful Attention to Eligibility Requirements
Although there may be lots of similarities, eligibility requirements for scholarships do vary from contest to contest. So, be sure to carefully review these requirements to make sure you qualify (and feel you have a good chance of winning) before before putting any real time and effort into an application.
Key #5: Proofread. Proofread. Proofread.
You can spend hours working on your application, but it will likely result in a total waste of time if it includes careless spelling or grammar mistakes. Therefore, take the time to proofread your application and all required submittal materials several times before sending them in.
And it’s always a good idea to have one or two trusted friends give them a thorough once-over as well.
